The Starlander family originates from five brothers (Tore, Gustaf, Knut, Nils and Henrik) in Jämtland, Sweden.

Tore, Gustaf and Knut applied for and received permission in 1935 to use the name Starlander. Nils and Henrik took the name when they came of age a few years later.

The Starlander family belongs to haplogroup I-Y33686 (1 tested).
